This singing percussionist trio represents the Colombian Caribbean culture with a unique and innovative formula. : La Perla is bullerengue, cumbia, merengue, gaita and creole champeta, they are deep voices and drums played with a strong rock attitude.
La Perla, came together in 2014 to compete in the national Bagpipes Festival in Ovejo, from which they walked away with the first prize and a determination to continue as a band. The three Bogatanas have travelled the rural regions of Caribbean Columbia investigating the various musical languages, learning and incorporating them into their own songs, while lyrically highlighting their social concerns, calling out political chicanery, racial injustice and sexual discrimination.
Their 2017 debut EP, Paren La Bulla (Stop the Noise), and Netflix’s use of the track, Bruja (Witch), in their drama series, « Siempre Bruja », brought them international attention and touring opportunities in the Americas and Europe with a lot of success.
During the pandemia, La Perla made various succesfull collabs with international artists (Nubya Garcia, Mexican Institute of Sound, Chinese Man records.. ) , and cooked their long-awaited 1st Lp » Callejera », finally released in September 2022 on their boutique label Mambo Negro records
They have since toured Europe in 2022 and 2023 : more than 60 concerts, including the best festivals : Womex, Vieilles Charrues (FR), Musicalarue (FR), Les Suds (FR), Fusion (ALL), Sziget (HR), Shambala (UK), Boom (PT) and many others… sharing the stage with renowned artists like La Dame Blanche. Frente cumbiero. La Yegros, Zoufris Maracas, Koffee, Avishai Cohen, Ibeyi, Chico Trujillo.
This year they also embarked for their 1st US Tour alongside their Mexican friends Son Rompe Pera.
2024 will be busy too, since they plan to release several Eps with Pulcinella, under the name « Pulciperla », and a new project with french producer Krak In Dub, and many more surprises to come.
